Pairing a WordPress site

The FieldPress Connect plugin and a one-time code. Nobody copies a password, nobody emails a credential.

How pairing works

The portal shows you a short code (like 7fe0-905b-3940). You enter it in the plugin on the client's WordPress. The plugin creates a dedicated application password on the spot — WordPress's own revocable credential system — and sends it straight to your FieldPress receiver over HTTPS. The code is single-use and expires in an hour. The password is never displayed to a human.

Step by step

  1. In the wizard's connect step, click Generate pairing code. Leave that tab open — it fills itself in when pairing completes.
  2. On the client's WordPress: Plugins → Add New → Upload → install FieldPress Connect (your portal links the current zip) → Activate.
  3. Settings → FieldPress: paste your receiver URL and the pairing code → Pair this site.
  4. Back in the portal — the WordPress fields are now filled, and the credential check runs automatically. Green means publish-ready.

Requirements

If pairing fails

MessageFix
Code expired / already usedGenerate a fresh code in the portal — they're single-use by design.
Could not reach the receiverCheck the receiver URL for typos; confirm the site's host isn't blocking outbound requests (rare, but some locked-down hosts do).
Application passwords unavailableThe site is pre-5.6 or a security plugin disabled them — update WordPress or whitelist application passwords, then retry.

The manual fallback

No plugin access? You can always pair the old way: create an application password by hand (Users → Profile → Application Passwords) and paste it into the wizard's WordPress fields. The pairing plugin exists so you never have to — but the fallback always works.

Unpairing / rotating

Revoke the application password from the same WordPress profile screen at any time — publishing stops instantly, nothing else on the site is touched. Re-pair with a fresh code whenever.
